MOVING OUT AT 19

Moving out was quite the task.

Packing quickly made me realize I had way too many clothes, even worse when I noticed most were items I haven't worn in over a year! It was definitely a reality check realizing how much needed to be sorted. And where is the electricity or water meter? Never thought i’d be asking that at 19 years old.

There are definitely parts which have been quite challenging but also parts that I have really enjoyed. I can’t say that sitting on the floor for weeks while waiting for our sofa was fun, Yes sofas really can take 8 weeks to be delivered!, but buying all the homely decorations certainly was, still not sure what look I'm going for but we'll get there.

After a few months I'm finally settled in and have a compiled together a list of tips:

1.Write A Shopping List

I learnt this sooner rather than later, without one it is too easy to pick up a ton of snacks and then get home to realize you have 2 chicken breasts and pasta to make a week's worth of dinners?!

2. Expect the first month to be more expensive

Along with those 700 candles that you just absolutely have to have cause what's a home without a candle... Right? You also have to factor in that you usually have to extra interest: For example if you move in on the 24th of September you would pay interest for 6 days in September on top of your normal mortgage payment for October.

3. Get the best deals

Shop around and make sure you can get the most for your money. You only have to mention that you've seen a better deal with one provider before another will lower their price. Remember they're all competing for you!

4. Know your budget

Now this doesn't necessarily mean you have to stick to only buying the cheapest options you can find, it's more about prioritizing what you want to spend your money on and working out what you can realistically afford to spend on unnecessary items.

5. Enjoy it

Moving out is stressful enough, so just try to enjoy it as much as possible. Make sure you have an essentials box to unpack first so that you're as comfortable as possible for your first night stay.
